Mobile phone companies are in a constant research to manufacture all-in-one devices. Phone carriers, particularly in Europe, have recognized the music services as a way to attract people to their new third-generation networks that can deliver broadband access to phones. Motorola in association with Apple has come up with iPod-style player for Motorola music phones that can play and download songs from iTunes Music Store. Moreover, service providers like Germany’s T-Mobile is trying its hand to provide online music, launching a download service that allow users to play songs on their phones.
To appeal the customers, music services concentrating on mobile phones, for example Vodafone and OD2 are coming up with downloadable music services. Compared to Apple’s iTunes Music Store, though these services are expensive, the researchers believe that as consumers are less tied to their computers, irrespective of cost, they would turn up to be natural audience for music on cell phones. Above all an ipod is only an entertainment device so it cannot compensate a mobile phone in terms of usefulness. That is why a multifunctional mobile phone with ipod like features is a more preferable device in terms usefulness, entertainment as well as communication.
